077 The Scared Crows
Title: The Scared Crows
Studio: Fleischer
Date: 6/09/39
Credits:
Directed by
Dave Fleischer
Animated by
David Tendlar
and William Sturm
Series: Betty Boop
Running time (of viewed version): 5:47
Synopsis: Crows attack Betty and Pudgy's plantings, things escalate, she eventually crushes their resistance in a scarecrow outfit.
Comments: I'm less happy with the Betty voice, but maybe it's the material. As someone germinating seeds as of this writing, I have a certain sympathy for Betty. Apparently she lives in the sticks like the Fleischers now, what with her plantable land. I guess she was moving when she ran into the hill folk last time. The animation is smoother and there's more going on than in the WB cartoons of the time. The scarecrow costume is like Ripley's lifter exosuit from Aliens.
